The Tang Center for Early China at Columbia University celebrated its 10th anniversary with a lecture and dinner on April 2, 2026, marking a decade of transformative scholarship and global engagement. Hosted in the World Room of the Journalism School, the evening featured remarks by Dean of the Faculty of the Arts and Sciences Amy Hungerford, who expressed deep gratitude for Donors Oscar and Dr. Agnes Hsu-Tang’s generosity and highlighted the far-reaching impact of their support in advancing scholarship, fostering global academic exchange, and elevating the Tang Center as a leading force in the study of early China. The special public keynote lecture of the evening was titled “Archaeological Perspectives on the Economic Transformation of China During the First Millennium BC,” presented by Dr. Lothar von Falkenhausen, a scholar of Chinese Bronze Age archaeology and art history, UCLA professor, and leading expert on early Chinese civilization. Dr. von Falkenhausen’s presentation offered new insight into economic transformation in China during the first millennium BC through the lens of archaeological evidence.
